"FACING EAST" A SOLO EXHIBITION BY WILLIAM KEDDELL
Facing East 2021 is a series of five binocular studies made in the vast DuPuis Wildlife and Environmental Area, located in northwest Palm Beach county near Lake Okeechobee. Each hyper-stereographic intervention is made facing due east.
Ad orientem, meaning "to the east" in Ecclesiastical Latin, is a phrase used to describe the eastward orientation of Christian prayer and Christian worship. The East, the point of the rising sun, is significant for almost every culture and religion, including our Tequesta indigenous forebears. Each ‘Facing East’ study is recorded as a time exposure lit by the twilight setting sun.
